  • Acting up

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

It likely goes without saying that the primary race for House District 47 has been unlike any previous race for the district in the past eight years. This year, incumbent Representative Jerry Paxton has faced three Republican challengers in Joey Correnti IV, Julie McCallister and Dee Garrison. With only a week until the primary election, it appears that the intensity of the race has taken a turn that few expected as Garrison and McCallister are claiming that Correnti had threatened Garrison and...

  • What's the plan?

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

*Editor's Note* An earlier version of this article listed the time of the workshop as 5 p.m. on August 13. In the days the following the meeting, the time was changed to 4:30 p.m. This article has been updated to reflect those changes. The recently accepted Fiscal Year 2018/2019 was just one of many topics of discussion for the Saratoga Town Council during their August 4 meeting. With Councilmember Bob Keel in attendance, Councilmember Jon Nelson initiated discussion on how the governing body...

  • Appreciate the roads

    Mike Armstrong|Aug 12, 2020

Going to work the other day, I had to stop for road work a couple miles outside of Hanna and then, again, in between Walcott Junction and Saratoga. I was a little annoyed because I wanted to get to work and these delays lasted about 10 minutes a piece. Road work is one of those summer events that happen all over the state. Interstate 80 usually has several different areas being worked on between Laramie and Rawlins I seem to hit every year. I have learned, in the summer time, it is better for...

  • Teubner bows out

    Aug 12, 2020

Editor, I write this today with a heavy heart to share a decision that has not been easy for me to make but, I find it necessary to withdraw my name for the Saratoga Town Council election. I have heard from so many Saratoga residents who have given support not only verbally but also with their vote and for that I am incredibly grateful. There are still 4 candidates to choose from: Creed James, Danny Burau, Ben Spaulding, and Tasha Worthington. It is our duty as Americans to do research and voice our opinions by voting. Our community is in dire...

  • Requests, timelines and records

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

The council chambers in Saratoga Town Hall once again served as the battleground for Councilmember Jon Nelson’s continued pursuit for answers in regards to the Town of Saratoga’s finances. During the August 4 meeting of the Saratoga Town Council, Nelson reiterated his request for material from town hall and questions in regards to discrepancies between amounts approved by the council and amounts expended by the Town of Saratoga. Additionally, questions surrounded the timeline in which material s...

  • Changes to Saratoga Council

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

Moving forward, the Saratoga Town Council will meet an hour later than they have in recent years. The change in time comes following a failed attempt at an ordinance to change the meeting date of the governing body. In addition to changing the time of the town council meetings, the council appointed one of two remaining candidates to the open seat for the remainder of 2020. Time Change On the agenda, under Town Hall, was the first reading of Ordinance 858. The only information provided on the...

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

Koyoty Sports and Trophy Room Taxidermy (Koyoty Sports) in Saratoga recently celebrated their 5th year in business with their annual Koyoty Howl and, if attendance at the event was any indication, the sporting goods store has plenty of celebrations ahead. Co-owner Warden Patzer said that, over the weekend of July 25, he estimated approximately 2,000 people visited his store. Each year, Patzer offers a number of deals on his stock and brings in vendors to talk with patrons. In December 2015, Koyo...

  • A delayed toast to 25

    Joshua Wood|Aug 12, 2020

For the first time since 1996, the annual Steinley Cup Microbrew and Competition will not take place in Saratoga. The competition, which would have celebrated its 25th year this summer, is just another seasonal event that has fallen victim to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Leanna Jones, Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce (S/PVCC) CEO, stated that the decision was a hard one for the S/PVCC Board of Directors. “It was not an easy ‘no’ by any means. They went back and forth trying to sha...

Among the additional information requested was updated equipment costs and construction timelines as well as final costs, an updated 12-month working capital estimate and a sensitivity analysis incorporating COVID impact on the project. “The U...
