Five young people were lost Sunday, January 22. They were returning from a week long visit to a Bible college in Jackson Hole. The five victims were from Pulaski County, Arkansas. At 6:52 p.m. Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) received a report that a Dodge Ram 3500 was driving east in the westbound lane of Interstate 80– just east of Rawlins. Neal Lee Forbes, born in Sterling, Colorado, on July 31, 1952, passed away on January 19, 2023, near his home northeast of Saratoga, Wyoming. He was born to Cliff and Madaline (Morris) Forbes, and he and his older sister Judy (Dixon) were raised throughout the western United States and spent five formative years in Brazil, Argentina, and Peru. Bruce White, age 70, the founder of the Brush Creek Luxury Ranch Collection and chairman of industry-leading hotel company White Lodging, died on Thursday, January 19, surrounded by his family. On Friday, January 20, Saratoga students participated in the Scripp's Spelling Bee, which was held at the Platte Valley Community Center. There were 46 contestants in the Bee from grades 2-8. Cooper Smith, a 6th grader, won the competition by spelling "configuration" correctly. Ryan Follum, a 5th grader, took 2nd place and Stetson Patzer, also a 5th grader, took 3rd after competing in a spell-off with 4 other students. The weather canceled a lot of games this past week for teams in Carbon County, but there was one game which was played on January 28 that had the Saratoga High School Panther basketball team stay undefeated. Saturday's game started off with Encampment winning the tip off, but the Tigers just couldn't keep up enough momentum to win the game. The Saratoga Lady Panthers swept in to Encampment on Saturday with winning on their mind. The Panthers grabbed the game in the first quarter and never let up. Encampment's Lady Tigers won the tip in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the ball, ending that quarter with Saratoga leading 23-21.
