Saratoga sees individual placings at Riverton tourney

The Saratoga Panther grapplers competed in the Ron Thon Memorial Tournament in Riverton this weekend. Competing against more than 30 teams, Saratoga didn’t have a team placement but saw individual placings in the junior varsity matches.

Varsity 

In the 106 varsity class, Josiah Stockwell scored 4 team points. 

In Championship Round 1, Stockwell won by fall over Caleb Morrison of Star Valley. In the quarter final, Tanner Johnson of Douglas won in sudden victory over Stockwell. In Consolation Round 2, Caden Polson of Laramie won by decision over Stockwell.

In the 120 varsity class, Tuker Carricato scored 2 team points. 

Championship Round 1 saw Lance Striefel of Thunder Basin High School win by decision over Carricato. In the first consolation round, Carricato received a bye. In Consolation Round 2, Carricato won by decision over Connor Hobbs of Laramie. In the third consolation round, Wyatt Weiss of Cheyenne Central won by decision over Carricato.

Quade Jordan wrestled in the 195 varsity class but did not score any team points. 

In Championship Round 1, Jordan received a bye. The second championship round saw Brendyn Nelson of Natrona County win by fall over Jordan. In Consolation Round 2, Tarrin Haws of Evanston won by fall over Jordan.

Junior Varsity

Wrestling in the 113 junior varsity class, Kanean Roberts scored 7 team points. 

Roberts received a bye in Championship Round 1. In Championship Round 2, Ike Elliot of Kelly Walsh won by fall over Roberts. In Consolation Round 2, Roberts received a bye. Roberts won by fall over Gavin Dighton of Lander Valley in Consolation Round 3 and, in Consolation Round 4, Roberts won by fall over Luis Bernal of Worland. In Consolation Round 5, Iven Wold of Thunder Basin High School won by decision over Roberts.

Also in the 113 junior varsity class, Brian Smith placed 5th and scored 23 team points. 

In Championship Round 1, Smith received a bye. Smith won by fall over Remi Martinez of Wind River in Championship Round 2 and won by fall over Cade Williams of Moorcroft in Championship Round 3. In the quarterfinal round, Caleb Brown of Big Piney won by decision over Brian Smith. In Consolation Round 6, Smith won by fall over Braylon Atencio of Cheyenne East and won by fall over Austin Ruvalcaba of Kemmerer in Consolation Round 7. The semifinal consolation round saw Jackie Meador of Big Piney win in sudden victory over Smith. In the 5th place match, Smith won by fall over Maddox Ascough of Cheyenne Central.

In the 170 junior varsity class, Silas Vannett did not score any team points.

In Championship Round 1, Gage Gibson of Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast won by fall over Vannett. In Consolation Round 1, Wade Garrett of Campbell County won by fall over Vannett.

Also in the 170 junior varsity class, Douglass Campbell scored 6 team points.

Campbell received a bye in Championship Round 1 and won by fall over Andrew Kellison of Campbell County in Championship Round 2. In the quarterfinals, Logan Barton of Cody won in sudden victory over Campbell. In Consolation Round 4, Thomas Berta of Cheyenne Central won by decision over Campbell.

Wrestling in the 285 junior varsity class, Ben Wagy placed 3rd and scored 26 team points.

Wagy received a bye for Championship Round 1 and won by fall over John Platt of Kemmerrer in Championship Round 2. In the quarterfinal, Gage Iberlin of Douglas won by decision over Wagy. Wagy won by fall over Jasper Jardine of Natrona County in Consolation Round 4 and Nolan Stone-Higgins of Cheyenne East in Consolation Round 5. In the consolation semifinals, Wagy won by fall over Coby Jones of Mountain View. Wagy won by fall over Kaden Neild of Jackson Hole in the 3rd place match.

The Panther grapplers will head to Greybull this weekend to compete in the Greybull Invite on February 4 and 5.
