Lady Miners net awards

HEM has five volleyball players named All-Conference and one Player of the Year

"Having five girls named to the All-Conference team was an honor to what they did for the season," Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School head volleyball coach Jackie Jones said. "It is nice when the hard work is recognized."

She said that in the early part of the season, when the Lady Miners were facing strong competition, including teams outside the 1A, some people didn't understand that the losses HEM had were a building exercise.

Rainey Wilson, Taylar Scott, Megan Hunter and Amy and Madison Campbell were named to the All Conference team.

Amy Campbell got some more honors from the 1A Conference.

"Amy getting an All-State bid was almost an unanimous decision," Jones said. "She is a young lady who works hard and deserves the honor. Amy was also named the 1A Southeast Conference player of the year."

Jones said that Amy Campbell winning the honor of player of the year as a sophomore was an incredible accomplishment.

She said the players who were recognized by the 1A Conference made her very proud to coach them.

"Those girls getting those accolades is a testament to their hard work," Jones said. "They are a group of young ladies that the honors do mean something to them, but it was the team honors of getting the third place trophy in Regionals and the trophy for second in State that was the big deal."

Jones concluded that the reason the Lady Miners did so well this year was that the players always thought team first.

It worked, since HEM was only one win away from taking it all.
