Linda Kay Fisher-Perue

Linda Kay Fisher-Perue went to be with her Lord on April 25, 2024. She was born on December 12, 1947 to Howard and MaryLee (Stock) Weinert in Falls City, Nebraska. She grew up on a small farm near Falls City and attended a rural school through 8th grade. Linda graduated from Falls City High School and then went to the University of Nebraska for one year. From there she went to Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska, not far from where she was raised. She obtained a teaching degree, for home economics and art from Peru State.

Linda married Jon Fisher and taught in Humboldt, Nebraska for a couple of years. While in Falls City she worked as a secretary for All State Insurance and a couple of other jobs, sometimes three at a time. The couple then managed the Cornhusker Boys Scout camp located in southeastern Nebraska. From there they moved to Big Springs, Nebraska where they were both teaching.

In the early 1980s they moved to Saratoga, Wyoming when Jon accepted the job as principal of the Saratoga High School. Linda worked at the Cedar Chest Gallery plus doing custom art work. She was an aide at the Saratoga Elementary School, then the secretary for the Middle School. On December 26, 1992 she married John Perue. In 1993 Linda began teaching Art at the Saratoga Middle and High Schools. Mrs. Fisher-Perue worked hard getting her students to create entries for the Wyoming State Art Symposium plus making sure those students were able to attend the Symposium for three days. Linda would have her students display their art at various local events. Linda sponsored “Nouveau”, a school art club for middle and high school students. She inspired many of her students to continue with art such as artists, teachers, a set designer for theatre and other careers in art. But all of her students gained a greater appreciation of the arts and crafts, along with the knowledge that they had the ability to create.

A few years later she added teaching Family and Consumer Science at the High School. Through this curriculum she initiated a life skills class and a survival microwave cooking class. In the life skills class she would bring in local business people to educate the students on basic life skills; how to keep a check book, money spending and investment, home maintenance, and car maintenance, just to mention a few. In her microwave survival class she taught the students how to use the microwave to create meals. Mrs. Fisher-Perue sponsored the High School FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Each year she would take students to State, District and National events. Linda inspired many of these students to go into careers associated with the experiences they gained from this organization.

In 2007 Linda was named Carbon County School District #2 teacher of the year.

After retirement Linda started a volunteer art class at the Saratoga Elementary School and was able to convince the administration to include art in the Elementary curriculum again. Linda’s greatest belief was that we need to take care of each other and above all take good care of the children.

Linda was an honorary life member of the Platte Valley Arts Council. She designed, and with the help of her students, painted a mural at the Saratoga Hobo Pool. She organized and over-saw the annual Art Show, and initiating the addition of crafts to the show. Linda had a children’s art and craft event added to the show. She was the coordinator of the Murals along the North Platte River Project. She taught children’s art classes and events with the sponsorship of the council. Linda had some of her art students involved with “face painting” at the “Togie Days” celebration.

Mrs. Fisher-Perue was a member of the Saratoga Museum and served on its board. Though the Museum she taught “Arts in the Park” classes, for children and adults. She taught Sunday school classes at the Saratoga Alliance Church. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

Linda partnered with her husband in a picture framing business, Perceptions Plus, where they created custom picture frames and art work. Linda designed; John assembled and installed most of the stained-glass windows in the Saratoga Presbyterian Church. Linda taught several individual art classes. Whenever any group or individual needed calligraphy work done, Linda would volunteer to do it. She presented her art at a show in her home town of Falls City. The event was held to help raise money for a new library. Linda sold or gave away many works of art. She custom painted several portraits of pets. Linda worked with many forms of media, as to gain an understanding of them and have the ability to teach them to others. She was always researching new techniques, mediums and styles.

Linda was very proud of her Nebraska heritage, tracing it back to before its statehood. One of her ancestors signed a petition to the Territorial Governor requesting pursuit of statehood. She was also very honored to be a longtime resident of Wyoming, proudly possessing a Wyoming Pioneer Fishing License.

Linda is survived by her husband John Perue; children: Obie (Heather) Perue, Jim Fisher, Joe (Lindsey) Fisher, Christa (Ty Cambre) Perue, Mary Hibdon, JT Perue and surrogate son Steven (Jackie) Phillips; sister Jean (John) Metzger and brother-in-law Dick Peru e, sister-in-law Crystal Perue and sister-in-law Frances Perue. She leaves behind her grandchildren: David Hibdon, Liam, Samson, and Shelley Perue, Calem and Jude Cambre, and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great grand-nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at the Saratoga Cemetery Chapel on June 22, 2024 at 10:00 am.
