Platte Valley Arts Council releases 2015/2016 plans

The Platte Valley Arts Council recently held elections of officers for the new year. Pam Kraft was elected president and Jerry Wood was elected vice president. Leslie McLinskey and Shannon Fagan were re-elected treasurer and secretary, respectively.

Other board members are Stacy Crimmins and Mary Martin. Currently, there are three open positions on the board. The Board of Directors has been planning its 2015-2016 calendar of events and projects.

Upcoming events include two Children’s Art Workshops. These free activities will be held on July 4 after Saratoga’s Independence Day parade and on Sept. 12 during the Encampment Copper Days Festival. Children will be able to paint, cut and paste, sculpt and draw, creating works of art with materials provided by the PVAC.

The PVAC will host “The Polka Nuts” polka band, during the Copper Days Community and Family Dance Sept. 12.

Colorist and designer, Karla Overland, will be in Saratoga to present a contemporary quilting class. Overland is the owner of Cherrywood Fabrics, creator of the only hand-dyed quilting fabric that looks like suede.

The class will be held on Aug. 22, where participants will be creating a wall hanging using contemporary quilting techniques.

This fall, the PVAC will host Todd Green, world musician on Oct. 15. Green performs nationally as a multi-instrumental solo artist.

Students from Carbon County School District #2 will have a chance to work with Green prior to his evening concert.
