  • FAA clarifies acceptable hangar items

    Erik Gantt|Oct 28, 2015

During the Oct. 21 meeting of the Saratoga Airport Board, the bulk of the discussion centered around items that are allowed to be stored in hangars. Bobby Chitwood, airport board member, called the FAA for clarification on hangar storage rules which came up during recent inspections. The FAA told him so long as items in hangars can be justified as “aviation related” there should be no problem. If someone is running a business out of their hangar they need to have that use of the hangar approved...

  • Lots of empty lots - wide open spaces or untapped potential?

    Erik Gantt|Oct 28, 2015

Property in and around Saratoga has been a topic of discussion lately at town meetings and amongst our citizens. Questions seem to revolve around the availability and pricing of housing, residential lots and commercial lots. There is also talk of assessing fees on vacant land such as a sewer service fee, which is already in town ordinance 828 but apparently has not been enforced. In my research I looked at maps in Saratoga Town Hall, data provided to me by the Carbon County Assessor’s Office, t...

The Saratoga Panthers (3-6) beat the Wyoming Indian Chiefs (1-8) with a final score of 39-6. After securing a safe lead of 26-0 in the first quarter the Saratoga coaching staff began using, almost exclusively, underclassmen who have not had much playing time this season....

  • The best laid plans

    Erik Gantt|Sep 30, 2015

I intended to write this op/ed article on vacant land in town and what it costs to hold on to that land. My overly focused research goals (read: anal) did not allow me to finish that article in time for this week’s paper. In the meantime, I was inspired by the two longest police reports I have seen since I have been at the Sun. It seems our town’s finest (the Saratoga Police Department) are taking direction from the mayor and cracking down on traffic violations. I suggest that following Ord...

  • Looking to the future

    Erik Gantt|Sep 30, 2015

It has been a tough three weeks for the Saratoga Panthers football team. Friday's game under the lights was no exception. The Shoshoni Wranglers handed Saratoga a 0-57 loss, but the Panthers showed some football acuity during the game. Even though the Panthers were losing, the Wranglers showed their frustration, earning several unsportsman-like penalties throughout the game. The Panthers had a hard time containing the Wranglers running game, but they kept the passing game in check. Panthers...
