Pulling For A Second Year

Whistle Pig Saloon to host 2nd Annual Snowy Range ATV/UTV Pull, proceeds to go towards Rocky Mountain Honor Flight

Get ready to witness the raw power in powersports at the 2nd Annual Snowy Range ATV/UTV Pull at the Whistle Pig.

Every competitor who rides all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility task vehicles (UTVs) will put their machines to the test and see if they can meet the challenge of how far they can pull a weighted sled.

According to Dan Jones, one of the event organizers, the ATV/UTV pull is almost like a tractor pull but the machines involved pull a smaller load. Jones said contestants in the event will compete in different classes and each one will be challenging.

“What we got this year is seven different classes, “ Jones said. “ Each competitor will compete in 400 to 600 liter four-wheelers and 601 to 800 liter four-wheelers. Next are 801 to 999 four-wheelers and 1000 and up four-wheelers. Then the three other classes are 900 and up non-turbo side by side which is your UTV. This is just a guess, we are just starting and trying to figure out the classes.”

Jones said he came up with this idea when he was watching television. He said using ATV/UTV would be a better alternative than tractors and trucks.

“I was watching tractor and truck pulls on television,” Jones said. “All these events for the ATV pull and garden tractors, I have only seen these competitions east of the Mississippi River. So I thought maybe this is something we could try out here. It is a good way to get kids and parents involved in this type of activity who have an ATV (or) UTV. “

Jones said people from out of town compete in this event. He said he hopes the turnout for this event will be better than last year.

“There are people from Rawlins and Walden, Colorado,’ Jones said. “We had a competitor who traveled from Pumpkin Center, Colorado which is way southeast. Last year we did not have a big turnout but we hope we have more people this year.”

Jones said all the proceeds from this event will go to the Veterans Honor flight to Washington D.C. This is for all Veterans who have fought in different war conflicts. He said the goal is to raise enough money so veterans can visit the war memorial of the war they fought in.

“I was talking to a member of the Rocky Mountain Honor Flight and it costs $1,700 per veteran for three days and they fly out from Denver,” said Jones.

To compete in this year’s event visit the Whistle Pig located at 2000 South Highway 130 or call Jones at 307-321-3478 with any questions.
