The Encampment Tigers’ success in Casper at the State Track and Field Championships as they earned top finishes. Every athlete gave it their all and then some.

“This has been a goal of mine. A great way to end my career at the State [Championship] and represent Encampment, 1A, and the whole state,” Jordan said. “My next focus is on playing in the All-Star football game. I had a chance to speak with the kids I play against who will be my teammates and it is going to be fun.”

Senior Kaben Pickett also added another page in the Encampment record books as he became a two-time and back-to-back 1A State Champion in discus.

“It was great to win back-to-back in State,” Kaben said. “It was great to see Quade finish 2nd place in discus and for me to finish 2nd place in shot put right next to him. Both of us worked hard all season.

“This is pretty exciting for me,” Kristie said. “I did not have the greatest performance in State last year so this makes up for it. My goal now is to get better and take up another step in State next year.”

Head Coach Kegan Willford said he is beyond ecstatic about how well the Jordans and Pickett did at state. He said they worked hard for this achievement.

“We had a lot of our athletes rise and compete at a high level this weekend,” Willford said. “I’m proud of everything they have accomplished this season. It was awesome to have Quade and Kaben win back-to-back as state champions. Both of them had a fantastic weekend.”

Willford said Quade made it his goal and mission to earn top awards at State. He said it’s an accomplishment that not many programs have done.

“One of Quade’s goals for this season was to break the 1A state record in the shot put,” Willford said. “Another one of Quade’s goals was to earn the “Best of the Best” award for the shot put at the state meet. He was also able to earn this award. Not a lot of 1A athletes earn this award, so it is really special.”

Wilford said he is also proud of Kristie for her accomplishments and other athletes who made top finishes at state.

“Kristie had a fantastic meet and got some great finishes,” Wilford said. “Even though he didn’t place in all of his events, Hayden Crowe still competed in four events at state. This is still a great accomplishment in my eyes and takes a lot of will and effort.”
