Greenhouses Are The Place To Be

Doggett GreenHouse provides gardening needs for local residents

Spring is here. It’s a time when colorful flowers blossom and people start to work on their home garden. For those who have a passion for colorful, eye-catching plants and flowers Doggett Greenhouse is the place to be.

Doggett Greenhouse was established in Encampment in 1986 by Gary and Mary Jacobsen. Their son Zane and his wife Maura took over the business in 2021. For 38 years the Jacobsen family has had amazing success in serving the entire Plate Valley by providing their customers and community with their gardening and landscaping needs.

Before Zane Jacobsen and his wife, Maura took over the business, he was a history teacher and counselor at Cheyenne East High School for 16 years. Maura was also a teacher. After their education career, they decided to move to Platte Valley to continue the family business. Zane grew up in the nursery business and he wanted to continue his family legacy,

“My parents saw a need, opportunity, and vision for a greenhouse to provide bedding plants for the Valley,” Zane said. “They committed to their vision and built the first greenhouse here in Encampment in 1986. A handful of years ago, me and Maura talked to my parents about the opportunity of buying the business from them when they were ready to get out of it and we were ready to move to this area.”

Zane said he has a great relationship with customers and the town of Encampment. He said that providing what his customers are looking for is what builds a bond in keeping his operation going.

“In the three years I have been running this business it has been great,” Zane said. “We have a lot of loyal customers that shop locally and customers that drive from Walden, Colorado to make purchases. I am grateful for their support because it is what makes our business great.”

Maura said she married into the business without any experience. She said working with her husband and understanding the trade of the business has been quite an adventure for her.

Maura said she and Zane cover huge ranches and the city when providing the goods and services their customers need. She said they work around the clock going to different towns to make deliveries, landscape, and planting.

“We do all the large ranches around here,” Maura said. “Our clients are A Bar A Ranch, Brush Creek Ranch, and the Old Baldy Club. We also do business with Steamboat Base and Steamboat Main Street. The other services we have to offer are individual custom planting and catering. The businesses in town are so amazing and that is what keeps us going.”

Doggett Greenhouse is located at 100 Grand Ave in Encampment. Doggett Greenhouse is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and specializes in bedding, potted, and custom planting.
