Saratoga girls go 0-2 at the 1A West Regional tournament, ending their season
The Saratoga Lady Panthers took an early exit from the regionals after two tough losses.
Saratoga lost the first game against a tough Burlington Lady Huskies team, 56-40. The Lady Huskies are ranked No. 1 in the 1A Northwest Conference with a 7-0 conference record and a 19-6 record overall. The Lady Panther got a second straight defeat against the Dubois Lady Rams, who are ranked No. 3 in the 1A Northwest Conference. Saratoga gave it their all but, in the end, the Lady Rams were able to hold on to a 44-43 win.
Heather Bartlett, head coach for the Saratoga Lady Panthers, said she was proud of how the girls played this weekend at regionals. She said it was tough but here girls had nothing to be ashamed of.
“The entire team left it all on the court in both games,” Bartlett said. “The chips didn’t fall exactly how we wanted them to, but the girls gave their best effort and I am proud of them. I felt that in the Burlington game, the girls played well. We hung with them for about three quarters and then they ended up pulling away a little in the 4th quarter.”
Bartlett said the game against the Dubois Lady Rams was a tough pill to swallow. She said her girls came close to winning the game but in the end, the Lady Rams stood their ground.
“The Dubois game was a real heartbreaker,” Bartlett said. “Things did not break our way at the end of the game and we ended up losing by 1 point. Games like this are hard to get over, and we were all disappointed by the outcome of the game. However, I know everybody who watched the game saw how hard every girl played and we are so proud of their efforts.”
