Voice of Democracy speech

The greatest attribute of our Democracy

There is no patriot more noble than the American soldier. Whether active duty or a veteran, they are the physical embodiment of the word patriotism and a great representation of our democratic values. They have enough pride and love for America to give themselves to its cause. They are willing to sacrifice everything, to pay any price, and to bear any burden to defend the American ideals of liberty and equality whenever and wherever those inalienable rights may be challenged. They are willing to put their lives on the line for our Democracy.

This kind of patriotic support is what we need from all people. The pride, sacrifice, and patriotism of the American citizen is what makes our Democracy great.

John F. Kennedy compelled us all during his inaugural address, saying “Ask not what your country can do for you -- Ask what you can do for your country”. This strikes at the heart of every American. It calls for a higher purpose, instilling a sense of duty and collective responsibility. Time and time again, throughout history this call to action has been answered.

Whenever Democracy has been threatened the American people have been willing to step up and defend it, generation after generation. George Washington crossing the Delaware on Christmas night serves as a monumental testament to this enduring spirit. It was 11 hours of persistence against the freezing rain and terrifying winds, fueled by the collective desire for democratic ideals. A legacy of defending Democracy was set into motion, uniting the American patriot in times of great strife, as seen during the harrowing days of the Civil War.

Even in the face of a nation divided, belief in the principles of Democracy kept the union indivisible. Again and again, as those ideals have been challenged, the American patriot has risen up to its defense. When the Axis powers threatened Democracy around the globe during World War II, millions of admirable Americans joined together and faced the largest and most brutal war in history. They put everything on the line to defend Democracy. Their courage paints a vivid picture of American values and determination. It is because of these patriots and the people who follow in their footsteps that America proudly stands as the home of the free, where Democracy will always prevail.

Although the Patriot is willing to risk their life for our Democracy, it is not blind support. Our Democracy has had its share of problems. Yet, the true essence of a Patriot lies in their ability to address and rectify these issues. Frederick Douglass, a former slave and leader of the Abolitionist movement, was one of the first to challenge the unjustness of his time. In his speech “The Meaning of the 4th of July for a Negro”, he calls attention to the wrongfulness of slavery. With the support of Abraham Lincoln and the abolitionist movement, our nation underwent profound change, amending the constitution to emancipate all slaves. But this was not the only issue our Democracy has faced or will face in the future. Thankfully, as long as we have patriots like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Elizabeth Cady Stanton tirelessly working to correct the injustices of their time. Their efforts and the progress they made form an essential part of our nation' s legacy, and guarantees equal opportunity for all.

Even during times of peace, the average American plays a vital role in our Democracy.

Peaceful protests and community involvement are a great way we support Democracy. These act as a way for us to amplify our individual voices, and make sure every citizen is heard.

Another way we can support our Democracy simply by being informed on current events and politics. This will allow us to make better decisions when voting based on our personal values.

Voting in local, state, and national elections is more than a right; it is a civic duty. By participating in the democratic process, we embody the spirit of Democracy itself, contributing to the united voice that guides our nation.

The greatest attribute of Democracy lies in the collective spirit of American patriots. Both the devoted soldier, and the engaged citizen. They represent the commitment to liberty and equality, as well as defending, and improving our Democracy. Whether through military service or simply exercising their democratic rights, every American plays a crucial role in shaping America and ensuring liberty and justice for all.
