Saving, donating makes cents

RNB State Bank givers out $600 in checks as part of recent program, plans to continue donating to local nonprofits

The Saratoga branch of RNB State Bank recently presented checks totalling $600 to members of the community.

On November 3, two checks for $200 each were presented to two Valley non-profit organizations and one check for $200 was presented to Liandro Escobedo. The presentation of the check to Escobedo was due to his success in a recent program called “Saving Makes Cents” in which people were asked to guess the amount of pennies in a jar.

“We just decided to select a jar, fill it with pennies and let anyone who came in take a guess. They could touch, feel it, lift it,” said Tami Fager, RNB State Bank branch president. “They could take their time and try and guess how many pennies were in the jar. Of course the closest, or if someone nailed it spot on with the right amount, would win $200.”

According to Fager, not only was Escobedo close to the amount but he had got it exactly right.

“There was $30 in the jar and he had down 3,000 pennies,” said Fager.

Along with the check presented to Escobedo, RNB State Bank also presented checks to the Saratoga Lions Club and Platte Valley Kiwanis.

“We have a whole list of non-profit organizations in the community, so we’re going to do little contests like this throughout the year,” said Fager. “We decided to do something fun, something different, for the community. We randomly drew two of our non-profit organizations (and) next time it’ll be two different organizations.”

According to Fager, RNB State Bank will continue doing programs similar to this one and making donations to more local non-profit organizations.

“We focused on picking two and the next contest we’ll pick two different ones and just keep going,” said Fager.
