Lady Tigers leave jamboree 4-0

Encampment volleyball gets five wins in total, hosting HEM Lady Miners before competing in 1A Riverside Jamboree

The Encampment Lady TIgers were busy last week as they hosted the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Minersa on October 3 and traveled to Basin for the 1A Riverside Jamboree over the weekend.

In both instances, the Lady Tigers were able to secure a total of five wins as things begin to shift towards the postseason later this month.

Beginning on Tuesday, Encampment hosted the Lad Miners in Tiger Nation and buried them in three sets. The Lady Tigers went 25-18 in the first two sets and 25-15 in the third set handing HEM a non-conference loss. The win would seemingly carry Encampment into the non-conference tournament beginning on Friday.

“The girls had a great weekend in Basin at the 1A Jamboree,” said Janice Peterson, head coach of the Lady Tigers. “We went 4-0 beating Arvada-Clearmont, Ft. Washakie, Meeteetse and Midwest.”

The first match of the weekend for Encampment was against the Midwest Lady Oilers with the Lady Tigers winning 3-2. Encampment won the 1st set 25-20, the 3rd set 25-11 and the final set 15-8. The Lady Oilers took the 2nd set 23-25 and the 4th set 20-25.

Encampment did better against the Arvada-Clearmont Lady Panthers, dispatching them in 4 sets. While Arvada-Clearmont took the 1st set 22-25, the Lady Tigers came back to win the following three sets 25-22, 25-17 and 25-16 and ended their Friday 2-0.

On Saturday, the Lady Tigers faced off against the Ft. Washakie Lady Eagles clipping their wings in three sets with substantial leads. Encampment went 25-3, 25-12 and 25-11 against the Lady Eagles for their third win.

The final match saw Encampment square off with the Meeteetse Lady Longhorns and take them down in four sets. Much like against Arvada-Clearmont, the Lady Longhorns would take the 1st set, this time with a score of 23-25. The Lady Tigers roared back, taking the next three sets for the fourth win of the weekend. Encampment went 25-20, 25-23 and 25-18 in the remaining three sets.

“In several of the games, we were down by five or more points and the girls pulled together to earn the wins,” said Peterson. “We made a few adjustments and the team still found success in spite of some adversity.”

Stats were not available as of press time, but Peterson focused on a few highlights for the Lady Tigers. Kyenna Jackson and Sami Anderson both led Encampment in scoring with Jackson sporting the most kills.

“The entire bench was able to play in the tournament, gaining valuable varsity experience and those players stepped in and did a really good job for us,” said Peterson. “Gentrie Meyer served well and gave us a strong finish in a few of the games with her serving.”

With the non-conference mid-season tournament over, the Encampment Lady Tigers will return to conference play this week.

Encampment will host the Saratoga Lady Panthers on October 12 at 5 p.m. before hitting the road over the weekend. The Lady Tigers will be hosted by the Cokeville Lady Panthers on October 14 at 10 a.m. before being hosted by the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns at 2 p.m.
