HEM girls fall short at regional tournament

Lady Miners go 0-2, ending season in Buffalo

The HEM Lady Miners pursued their dreams of the State tournament by facing two teams at the regionals last week. With weather forcing hurried departures and fewer fans cheering them on the Miners went for the win, but fell short.

Lady Miners vs. Lady Buckaroos

Thursday they was on the court with Kaycee's Lady Buckaroos first. The came ended with HEM's Lady Miners losing 20-49. The Miners were a third seed facing a second seed.

Lady Miners vs. Lady Devils

Friday the Lady Miners were challenged by the Hulett's Lady Devils in a very close game that ended with the Devils moving on, and the Miners going home. The Miners gave it their all but were tipped by Hulett's Devils scoring 40 points and held the Miners at 37.

Head Coach Jackie Jones said she was sad they weren't going any further in the tournament, but she wasn't unhappy about how they played. "The girls played some their very best basketball at the regional tournament. Many things came together, and despite having losses, the games were good ones."

Jones said the season had its ups and downs, but she was proud of how hard the girls worked at trying to win. "The team endured a lot this season, and I can say without question that they never gave up, said Jones. "This is a group of amazing ladies that truly embodies the meaning of team."

Jones said that she admires how there was never any finger pointing or attitudes because of losses. She said that the girls grew in so many ways, it was an absolute privilege and honor to be their coach this season.The HEM Lady Miners pursued their dreams of state facing two teams at the regionals last week.
