Rattlers play tough

LSRV lose and win this weekend and coach likes the start

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers had a successful first weekend according to Head Coach Jack Cobb.

“I was happy with the weekend,” Cobb said. “We took a little time off after winning the championship and then Thanksgiving, so I feel we were a week or so behind other teams who had been practicing.”

On December 9, the Rattlers faced the Kemmerer Rangers and lost 66 to 51.

“They had one big kid we just didn’t have an answer to,” Cobb said. “Early in the season, it is good to go up against a player like that.”

On December 10, the Rattlers faced the Rich County Rebels, a Utah team, and beat them 67-50.

“It was one of the most balanced scoring efforts that I have seen from a Rattler team in years,” Cobb said. “It was fun to see.”

Later in the day, the Rattlers played the Wind River Cougars and lost 55 to 51.

“The 1st half, the referees were calling fouls on both teams quite a lot. I believe there were 15 fouls called,” Cobb said. “The 2nd half was not so bad. When the game was over, I was satisfied with how we played, but it would have been nicer if we had won. It is funny that Rich beat them (Wind River) the night before.”

Cobb is looking forward to the weekend coming up.

On December 16 the Rattlers will face Burlington Huskies, the runner up in the championship football game this year, and then Upton Bobcats, last year’s champions on December 17.

After the game with the Bobcats, the Rattlers will play Dubois Rams., the runner up in the championship game.

“It is going to be an interesting weekend, given we will be playing three of the top four teams,” Cobb said. “Hopefully we will be healthy because these games will be a measuring stick for how the season will be. We played three good teams last week and three tough teams this week to come.”

Cobb is hopeful to win at least one game coming up.

“If we win two out of three, I will feel like we had a very good weekend. If there is only one win, I will still be happy,” Cobb concluded. “If we don’t win any, it means we have a lot to go over in the practice coming up after the weekend.”
