Lady Miners keep trying

HEM played a lot of games this week, but no wins

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School volleyball team met a lot of opponents this past week, but were not quite able to take a win.

“Last weekend came after we had a long week,” Head coach   for the Lady Miners Hannah Williams said. “ We traveled all three days on top of it being a five day school week.”

During the week the Lady Miners played, Williams said the HEM team was looking for ways to improve on their record of 1-15.

October 13, the Lady Miners played away at Wyoming Indian losing the game.

.”We tried a new defense and offense last week, so there were lots of moving parts,” Williams said.

Although trying hard, the Lady Miners struggled against a strong Rock River team on Friday, October 14,  Rock River who were at home beat HEM in strong manner. The Lady Longhorns showed their crowd they were in control most of the game winning the first set 25 to 10, the next set 25 to 9 and the last set 25 to 12.

It did not get better for the Lady Miners when they placed Arvada-Clearmont which HEM also lost to.

“On Saturday we had one of our varsity girls get hurt in a game and we had three freshmen step up and fill a role on the varsity team,” Williams said. “I am very proud of them for that.”

Although it has been a tough season for the Lady Miners, Williams is hopeful the team will jell by the time they go off to regionals.

HEM will face only one more team before regionals.

It will be against Wyoming Indian on October 21 at HEM’s home turf.

“This week is a bit more quiet with only one game,”  Williams said. “That gives us extra time to practice and figure some things out in order to be ready for regional next week.”
