Lady Miners Win

HEM takes home first win of the season

It has been a year of adjustment for the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Lady Miner volleyball team as a young, small team goes out on the courts each week.

This past week, HEM played a lot of games and had their first victory.

On Tuesday, the Lady Miners played the Encampment Lady Tigers. The games were close with the Tigers winning the first and second sets 27 to 25 and 25 to 17. The Lady Miners took the next set 25 to 18. The last set went into the Lady Tiger 25 to 22.

The Lady Miners did not have a lot of time to lick their  wounds as they went off to Lusk to play in a tournament. Campbell County, Upton, Southeast, all faced the Lady Miners on Friday. The team did not win any game.

"This weekend went okay," Hannah Williams, HEM head volleyball coach said. "We got our first win of the season against Midwest, which was exciting."

Before the Lady Miners faced the Lady Oilers, HEM had Campbell County and Farson-Eden on Saturday to play. The Lady Miners lost to both teams. The last game for the girls was one that they won. It was a moment the girls and coach had been waiting for.

"We struggled this weekend with regards to maintaining a positive attitude and communication and it showed in the games that we lost," Williams said. "Going into this week we are hoping to work more on defense because we have St. Stephens/ Wyoming Indian on Thursday, Rock River Friday and Midwest again on Saturday."

The Lady Miners have waited all season to win, and finally it has happened. They will be going to regionals now.

Williams is hopeful after working on issues this week, they will be ready for the teams that are remaining on the schedule and win another game.
