A little dance for the Miners

HEM dances a little in the 3rd quarter in their best effort of the season

"We had a great game," Hanna, Elk Mountain (HEM) Miner High School football head coach Zack Scott said.  "We played well on both sides of the ball and really applied what we have been working on in practice."

The Miners faced the Midwest Oilers on September 30 and played their best football game since the season started. The young HEM team showed it had rebounded from the tough loss against Encampment the week before where they were not able to put up any points against the Tigers who won 70-0.

The Miners did not win the game against the Oilers when the time ran out, but the team won in many other ways.

Freshman Slevyn Pelt scored three touchdowns, two receiving and one rushing. He had a total of 253 yards.

Pelt was not the only Miner to hit 200 total yards. Sophomore Hayden Antencio got exactly 200 yards and scored four times, all rushing touchdowns.

Senior Howard Bame was the quarterback and completed nine passes for 16 and for a total of 191 yards. Bame is new to the position, but did a great job.

Freshman Samuel Ramirez was anotherMiner who rushed in for a touchdown. Ramirez led the team in total tackles with 11, freshman Naythan Antencio got 10 and Pelt got nine. Quarterback Bame contributed eight tackles. The defense did a good job of keeping the Miners iin the game.

Although they lost to the Oilers 67-57, the team felt victorious by staying competitive in the game until the end.

There was a moment in the game where the two teams got to prove their goodwill toward each other.

In the 3rd quarter, the lights went off. The lights take some time to warm up, so the players had to wait a bit.

Like many football field stands, the announcer started to play music that was danceable and a friendly competition occurred between the players. There was a dance off to the crowd's delight.

Scott got a picture of both teams together after the dance off finished and although the game was still on, the photograph shows the magnanimity both teams had for each other.

We did everything, but win the game," Scott said. " I am proud of all the kids who fought hard and left it out on the field.  It was a very good night for HEM football."

The Miners will face Farson-Eden away on October 7. It is a conference game and both teams are looking for their first win.
