Board of Carbon County Commissioners meeting at a glance

• Kandis Fritz of Road and Bridge reports traffic counts have risen. For example, the traffic on CR387, South Spring Creek the count was 118 cars, Cow Creek was 86 per day. These numbers determine whether magnesium chloride will be applied to the roads.

• Resolution 2022- 36 for application for Federal Funding for the Seminoe Centerline Marking Project was passed.

• Two lease agreements for Wille Pit 525 and Wiant Pit 425 were presented for renewal and were passed.

• Financing options and availability for two motor graders were discussed.

• A permit for snow removal on County Road 798 was requested. The request was denied through Road and Bridge, which is why it was brought to BOCCC. One landowner is requesting plowing. Commissioner Sue Jones stated that this would set a precedent that would cause problems in the future. The Commissioners agreed that this is a seasonal property and should be treated as such. This is generally a case-by-case basis.

• Buildings and Grounds requested the lease agreement for the caretaker house at the fairgrounds be approved. It was also passed.

• Sheriff Archie Roybal reported that dispatch is working on Text to 911. They are also working on incorporating a body scanner as well.

• Gwynn Bartlett presented a request from County Fire Warden Rutherford to purchase turnout gear using the $35,000 budgeted for that purpose. BOCCC approved moving forward with the purchase.

• An election update was was given by Gwynn Bartlett, Carbon County Clerk. It was successful with approximately 75% turnout of voters in Carbon County. A total of 4,399 turned out to vote, including 1,100 absentees.

• Request for approval of Health Insurance plan renewal with Independence Indigo was approved.

• County Attorney Ashley Mayfield was not available due to staffing issues.

• Bartlett presented a Memorandum of Understanding for Guardian ad Litem and Carbon County Jail, just needs Chairman’s signature. Approved.

• A special prosecutor was approved for Resolution 2022-37 on request of Bartlett.

• Commissioner Jones presented certificates of substantial completion for Dixon Airport fence and seal coat projects. They were approved.

The next BOCCC meeting will be on September 6, at 9 a.m. at the Carbon Building in Rawlins.
