RMEF raises money for conservation projects

Non-profit struggles to find volunteers while protecting wild life

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation-Platte Valley Chapter held its 31st Annual Fundraising banquet and auction at the Platte Valley Community Center on August 6th. Approximately 90 people attended and enjoyed food and fun while supporting a very important organization.

Paula Klaus-Crozier and her husband, Wess, along with Pat Rollison, Ed and Joni Kenneday, Cortney Place and Josh Crozier hosted the event. Also in attendance were JR Larsen the regional director, and auctioneer Rodeo Rick Darcy.

Prizes ranging from a Browning X Bolt Stalker, LR 28 Nosler or a Mathews V3X 29"Bow were offered in the progressive raffle. There was a silent auction as well as the live auction. The Lazy River Cantina catered the affair.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation-Platte Valley Chapter is in peril. Lack of participation and support has put them on the endangered list. As is the case with many nonprofit organizations, volunteers are getting hard to find.

According to the RMEF website, this organization is dedicated to ensuring the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitat and our hunting heritage. The foundation has helped complete more than 13,000 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects that protected or enhanced more than 8.2 million acres of wildlife habitat.
