July Hanna Town Council

The Hanna Town Council met at 6:30 p.m. on July 12 at the Hanna Town Hall. In attendance were councilmembers; Sammy Sikes, Tracy Fowler, William Dys, Jayson Nordquist and mayor Lois Buchanan.

In a few moments the agenda and regular meeting minutes for June 14 and minutes for a special meeting on June 23 were approved.

Public works is working on streets in cooperation with AML. Water treatment plant director David Sutter said more water was being used, but because it was summer, Sutter attributed it to the season and people watering their lawns. He said the increased usage was normal.

Hanna Marshal Ted Kranenberg said he has been taking training classes in technology advances.

The Hanna Recreation director Vivian Gonzales said there was a new lifeguard and that the summer help were doing a great job. She had been training a new recreation director and was interviewing for two receptionists. Activity at the recreation center has increased during the summer months.

The Hanna Recreation Center and Hanna Basin Museum hosted a film crew who were shooting around northern Carbon County for a quick film clip to show off the north of the county for tourism.

There will be a local candidate forum to be held at 6 p.m. on August 3 at the Hanna Recreation Center.

It was noted by audience members the gopher problem was getting out of hand around the rec center and cemetery. Poison has not worked well. Public works said they were looking at other options to rid the town of these pests.

South Central Wyoming EMS (SCWEMS) Hanna representative Carey Lake asked the council to approve permission to purchase some equipment that each municipality associated with SCWEMS had to approve. Because it was not on the agenda, the Council could not consider approving the purchase. Lake said it was time sensitive and the approval was needed before the end of the month. A special meeting was scheduled to address the situation.

After the board reports were completed, the Council approved.

Town treasurer, Ann Calvert, went over the financials and the bills were ratified.

Bob Davis, Republican running for House District 47 spoke next.

“I am running as a candidate to preserve Wyoming conservative values,” Davis said. “House District 47 is approximately 1,100 square miles. It covers Carbon and Sweetwater counties.”

Davis said he has been a job creator for 35 years. He has been in the oil and gas industry, ranching and hospitality.

Davis pointed out his work on State’s gaming commission where as chairman he had seen it grow to collecting over a million dollars. He has also been a Carbon County Commissioner. Davis said he would fight for Carbon County’s value.

“Wyoming is a conservative state,” Davis said. “Cheyenne seems to have lost its conservative ways and I truly believe I can go there and regain these values and I would appreciate your vote.”

The Council approved the Hanna Marshal’ department to submit grants with no matching funds without a resolution. Buchanan made clear her reservations of the grants going forth without the Council’s approval.

Gonzales and William M. Armstrong were sworn into the positions of Hanna Town Clerk and Hanna Parks and Recreation Director respectively.

Resolution 2022-562 issuing an open container waiver permit allowing open containers at the Hanna Parks and Recreation Center for a Sip-n-Paint party on August 12 was approved.

Resident Greta Clark and Ashley Weatherford were granted a fowl permit.

Cost of repairs for equipment for the pool at the recreation center by Long’s Technology was approved for a total of $40,013.41.

Resolution 2022-563 issuing an open container permit for the ballfields at the Hanna Recreation Center was granted for the day of August 6 for a softball tournament.

The meeting concluded with approval of a revised employee policy and procedure handbook.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on August 9 at the Hanna Town Hall.
