Saratoga grapplers place individually at state

The season has come to an end for Saratoga Panther Wrestling as they competed in the 2A State Wrestling Tournament in Casper this weekend. 

The Panther grapplers took seven wrestlers to the Ford Wyoming Center and three of them saw individual placings while the team landed in the middle of the 2A rankings in 11th place with a score of 61.5, between Greybull/Riverside and Big Piney.

106 Class

Representing the 106 weight class for Saratoga, Brain Smith placed 5th at the state tournament.

In Championship Round 1, Smith won by major decision over Hunter Burnett of Kemmerer before going to the quarterfinal round where he won by fall over Ethan Tarango of Shoshoni.

The semifinal round saw Smith lose by decision to Dominic Sanchez. In the consolation semifinal round, Sammie Cyrus of Dubois won by decision over Smith. In the 5th Place Match, Smith won by decision over Brodie Dean of Cokeville.

113 Class

Saratoga had two wrestlers in the 113 weight class with Tuker Carricato and Kanean Roberts. While Roberts didn’t place, Carricato took 3rd place.

Carricato won by technical fall over Bryce Brown of Kemmerer in Championship Round 1 and won by fall over Wyitt Knight in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Braydnn Terry of Moorcroft won by decision over Carricato. Carricato won by fall over Will Ward of Thermopolis in the consolation semifinal round and won by major decision over Knight in the 3rd Place Match.

Roberts went 1-2 in his matches, first losing by fall to Nathan Fish by Niobrara County in Championship Round 1. He then won by fall over Jaydon Mickelson of Lovell in Consolation Round 1, but lost by fall to Knight in Consolation Round 2.

120 Class

Allyster Ingraham represented the 120 weight class for Saratoga. Though battled through four matches, he ultimately didn’t place.

In Championship Round 1, Shane Hannah of Moorcroft won by decision over Ingraham. In Consolation Round 1, Ingraham won by fall over Wayne Todd of Shoshoni. He also won by fall over Nicky Knigge of Shoshoni in Consolation Round 2. In Consolation Round 3, Aidan Ruby of Wind River won by fall over Ingraham.

182 Class

Kellen Reeder grappled in the 182 weight class for Saratoga, going through four matches but ultimately not placing.

In Championship Round 1, Tayton Hodges of Lovell won by fall over Reeder. In Consolation Round 1, Reeder won by fall over Brenton McKee of Shoshoni. He also won by fall over Julian Cabello of Shoshoni in Consolation Round 2. In Consolation Round 3, Austin Barral of Thermopolis won by fall over Reeder.

195 Class

Quade Jordan wrestled in the 195 weight class for Saratoga and placed 3rd.

In Championship Round 1, Jordan received a bye. In the quarterfinal round, Jordan won by fall over Jarek Sorensen of Thermopolis. In the semifinal round, Zane Collins of Lovell won by fall over Jordan. In the consolation semifinal round, Jordan won by fall over Dylan Hagler from Kemmerer. The 3rd Place Match was a rematch for Jordan and Sorensen, with Jordan winning by decision over the Thermopolis wrestler.

285 Class

Ben Wagy represented Saratoga in the 285 weight class, but did not end up placing.

In Championship Round 1, Christian Reilly of Hulett won by fall over Wagy. Wagy then received a bye in Consolation Round 1. In Consolation Round 2, Zack Murphy of Big Piney won by fall over Wagy.
