Lady Rattlers win in Colorado

LSRV girls go 2-0 in non-conference games over the weekend

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers took a break from conference games last week as they headed across the border to face two Colorado teams.

On Thursday, LSRV was hosted by the Meeker Lady Cowboys for a double-digit win. Then, on Friday, the Lady Rattlers sunk their fangs into the Rangley Lady Panthers.

“I thought we had a really good weekend and that we won both games in different ways,” said Head Coach Mark Gillies.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Cowboys

“Against Meeker, we came out really well and our intensity was awesome,” Gillies said. “It was one of those games where everything seemed to fall into place for us. The 1st quarter we scored 27 points and shot 53 percent from the field. That was a really good start for us.”

According to Gillies, the focus in practice for LSRV’s girls had been to play all four quarters and to keep their intensity going for the full 32 minutes of the game.

“I felt like we finally did it in this game,” said Gillies. “We just played really well the whole game as a team on the offensive and defensive end.”

On defense, the Lady Rattlers held Meeker senior Sarah Kracht to 15 points for the entire game. The last time LSRV and the Lady Cowboys faced each other, Kracht had put up 30 points in the game. She had also put up 40 points against Rangley the week before.

Skylynn Ready led the Lady Rattlers against Meeker as she scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Regina Hererra followed with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal while Kinlie Montgomery scored 10 points and had 7 rebounds. Katelynn Englehart scored 9 points against the Lady Cowboys and had 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

The final score was 64-33, Lady Rattlers.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Panthers

While they were able to walk away with a significant win over the Lady Cowboys, the LSRV girls had a much closer game with the Lady Panthers on Friday.

“I think we had to be mentally tough in that game and our girls did that and I think that is why we won,” Gillies said. “Our shots were not falling like they were the day before and Rangley is just a hard matchup for us with some of the players they have. We kept fighting the whole game and were able to maintain a lead and make enough free-throws and plays at the end of the game to win.”

Facing Rangley, Hererra and Kylie Evans were the leaders as they each scored 10 points. Hererra also have 5 rebounds and 2 steals while Evans had 11 rebounds. Ready followed with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals and Englehart scored 5 points and had 3 rebounds.

The final score was 43-35, LSRV.

Following their weekend in Colorado, the Lady Rattlers are 12-3 for the season and 4-1 in conference play. LSRV will have faced the Encampment Lady Tigers on February 15.

The Lady Rattlers will have two conference games to end their regular season as they are hosted by the Saratoga Lady Panthers (10-5, 4-3) at 4 p.m. on February 18 and will host the Cokeville Lady Panthers (13-6, 6-0) at noon on February 19.
