Bentsen interim treasurer
Treasurer appointed interim treasurer until vacancy filled
November 24, 2021
While Patty Bentsen will officially retire from her position as Carbon County Treasurer effective December 3, she will remain in the position for a little longer than expected.
At their November 16 meeting, the Board of Carbon County Commissioners (BOCCC) unanimously passed Resolution No. 2021-41 appointed Bentsen as Interim Carbon County Treasurer effective December 3. Bentsen originally submitted her resignation letter on October 5, at which point it was expected a nominee would be presented to the BOCCC by the Carbon County Democratic Party by December 7.
According to Gywnn Bartlett, the Democratic Party had not seemed to meet and therefore a candidate had not yet been either selected or would be prepared to be presented in December. Earlier this year, following the announcement of the retirement of the late Paul Zamora, the Carbon County Republican Party had met and presented a candidate within a week of notification from the county commissioners.
Along with presenting Resolution No. 2021-41 to the BOCCC, Bartlett stated she would send a letter from the commissioners to the Carbon County Democratic Party informing them of the vacancy and their obligation to present a candidate to fill the unexpired term.
The resolution, which passed unanimously, will keep Bentsen in the treasurer position—albeit as an interim treasurer—until the vacancy is filled. During that time, she will be paid at the rate set forth for elected officials in Resolution 2018-18 which was adopted by the BOCCC on May 15, 2018.
The next meeting of the Board of Carbon County Commissioners will be at 9 a.m. on December 7 at the Carbon County Courthouse in Rawlins.
