HEM fights the Devils

Miners work against No. 1 Hulett

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners wer only able to field seven players for their October 15 game against the Hulett Red Devils..

“Hulett is very good team and they have some excellent senior athletes this year,” Head Coach Zack Scott said.

Hulett is 6-0 overall and number 1 in the 1A East Conference for six-man at 4-0.

“We fought well and played hard, but there was just seven of us at the end,” Scott said. “We just kept fighting because our boys don’t give up. We did the best we could.”

The score was 57-0, but Scott was happy enough his team played under tough circumstances and came away in good spirits.

“We did move the ball and we did get close to scoring, but we also shot ourselves in the foot,” Scott said.

Thomas Wagner ran for 92 yards. Quarterback Dylan Romero passed for 25 yards against a difficult Devil team. Jesse Deegan had three receptions for 15 yards and rushed for 16 yards. Both Deegan and Wagner had six tackles. All seven players rushed and made tackles.

“When you are seven on a team, you are pretty much doing everything,” Scott said.

Scott said he was grateful to his assistant coaches and all the hard work they had been doing during the season with an undermanned team.

“Mac Madsen, Christian Gonzales and Josh Scott have done a lot of hard work all season long and they have kept these kids motivated,” Scott said. “They have been an essential part of the spirit of this team.”

The Miners will have their final game this Saturday at home against Kaycee.

“Kaycee has some good players that are hard-nosed kids, but we will come out to play,” Scott said. “The experience that this season is laying for us is going to be great next year.”
