Lady Rattlers do well in tourney

LSRV plays well against 2A teams while in Thermopolis

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Lady Rattlers received a bit of a break from conference play this weekend as they competed in the Bobcat Invitational in Thermopolis.

Though other 1A conference teams were in attendance, the Lady Rattlers were able to test their skills against higher conference teams with, mostly, positive results. LSRV faced the Rocky Mountain Lady Grizzlies, the Burlington Lady Huskies, the Big Piney Lady Punchers, the Riverside Lady Rebels and the Thermopolis Lady Bobcats.

The tournament likely served as a palate cleanser of sorts before LSRV prepared to return to regular season and conference games this week.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Grizzlies

The first match for the Lady Rattlers was against Rocky Mountain and ended in a 1-1 tie between the two teams. While LSRV took the 1st set 21-13, the Lady Grizzlies would take the 2nd set 20-21.

Kinlie Montgomery led in attacking the net during this match, with a total of 6 kills. Cashley Criswell and Destre Kaisler both followed with 3 kills. Kaisler and Katelynn Englehart led in serving, both serving 2 aces against Rocky Mountain. On the defense, Kylie Evans had a total of 12 digs across the two sets and was followed by Kaisler and Englehart, who each had 4 digs.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Huskies

After a tie game for their first match of the weekend, LSRV went on to face Burlington and won both sets against the Lady Huskies. The Lady Rattlers sunk their fangs in deep as they took the 1st set 21-10 and the 2nd set 21-6.

Skylynn Ready led in attacking the net this time with 7 kills and was followed by Montgomery with 4 kills. Englehart led in serving with 5 aces and was followed by Ready with 3 aces. Defensively, Evans was again the lead digger with 8 digs. Kaisler followed with 3 digs and Regina Herrara had 2 digs.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Punchers

LSRV went on to face the Lady Punchers, where they took those two sets as well, going 21-12 in the 1st set and 21-8 in the 2nd set.

Montgomery was the leader in attacking the net in this match with 8 kills and was followed by Ready with 4 kills, Kaisler with 3 kills and Criswell with 2 kills. As a team, a total of 3 aces were served with Evans, Kaisler and Catrina Habel serving 1 ace a piece. On the defense, Evans had 10 digs against the Lady Punchers and was followed by Kaisler with 6 digs, Englehart with 5 digs and Ready with 4 digs.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Rebels

Following a tie game and two wins, LSRV was dealt a loss as they faced the Lady Rebels. The Lady Rattlers, however, didn’t make it easy for Riverside as the score in the 1st set was 22-25 and the score in the 2nd set was 20-25.

Montgomery again led in attacking the net as she dealt 8 kills against the Lady Rebels. Criswell followed with 5 kills and Ready had 4 kills. In serving, Ready served 3 aces against Riverside while Englehart and Habel each served 1 ace. Evans, meanwhile, led in defense with 18 digs and was followed by Herrara with 8 digs and Ready with 5 digs.

Lady Rattlers vs. Lady Bobcats

The final game of the weekend for LSRV would see them face off against the Lady Bobcats across three sets. The Lady Rattlers would ultimately win 2-1 with Thermopolis taking the 1st set 25-21 and LSRV taking the 2nd set 25-15 and the 3rd set 15-10.

Montgomery and Ready both led in attacking the net against the Lady Bobcats with 9 kills each. Criswell followed with 3 kills and Kaisler had 2 kills. In serving, Habel, Englehart and Herrera each served 2 aces against Thermopolis. On the defense, Evans again led with 18 digs and was followed by Kaisler and Ready who each had 13 digs.

After the tournament this weekend, the Lady Rattlers are 17-3-2 for the season and are 3-1 for conference play. LSRV sits at No. 2 in the 1A Southwest Conference, just behind the Cokeville Lady Panthers.

The next game for the Little Snake River Valley Lady Rattlers will be at 6 p.m. in Hanna against the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow Lady Miners.
