Rattlers bite into HEM

LSRV deals loss to Miners in first home game

The Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers football team played their first game against another Carbon County six-man team and came out victorious 61-0.

“Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) just didn’t have a lot of players to go to this year,” Head Coach Jack Cobb said. “They were scrambling to have enough players to compete with us. Also my boys were fired up to compete with someone other than themselves.”

Cobb said he has 24 players on his team. In six-man that is a lot of depth. The HEM team had 12.

“We started out well. That gave us a lot of momentum early,” Cobb said. “We got a punt return for a touchdown and then an interception for a touchdown, so good things started to happen for us early.”

Cobb said he was able to put in a lot of his younger players as the game went on.

“Even before the half-time, Zack (Scott, head coach for HEM) asked if we could run the clock, which we did,” Cobb said. “That made the game go pretty quickly. In fact we only had plays on offense. So it was a good game for the younger boys to get to play.”

Cobb said the game was a good tune up.

“We do have a lot depth with 24 boys with nine freshman,” Cobb said. “It didn’t give the upperclassmen a lot of time to shine individually, but I did have a freshman stand out in his defensive position. He was all over the field on defense.”

The young player was Bridger Cozzens.

“It was a fun game for the kids,” Cobb said. “It was a good first game.”

He said although varsity got little playing time, it was good for him to see what depth he had from all his players no matter what grade they were in.

“It kind of showed us what kids could step in and score points,” Cobb said. “The West is going to be tough this year. Encampment is going to be super strong. Farson were the champs and there are other teams that are very good in this division. It is going to be interesting to see who comes out on top at the end of the season.”

The next game for the Little Snake River Rattlers will be at 4 p.m. on September 10 when they host the Encampment Tigers.
