Saratoga netters see success at preseaon tournament
The Saratoga Lady Panthers had an exciting weekend of volleyball tournaments Friday and Saturday. Facing off against six different teams, the Lady Panthers secured 4 wins in their early season matches starting their season overall with a 4-2 weekend.
Winning 2-0 against the Kemmerer Lady Rangers, the Lady Panthers averaged 8 kills per set making for a 32 percent kill average sophomore Makenna King led with 7 kills. Juniors Olivia Everett and Whitney Bennett followed with 4 kills each. Shelby Knotwell served 8 aces against the Rangers.
The Saratoga Lady Panthers fought three sets against the Powell Lady Panthers . Though losing the match 1-2, the Lady Panthers had 61 attack attempts with 17 kills. Bennett had scored 7 kills. King followed with 4 kills along with serving 4 aces.
Going head-to-head with the Wyoming Indian Lady Chuefs, the Lady Panthers won with a 47.1 percent kill average. Finishing 2-0, junior Hanna Lathrop, served 6 aces in the game making a 50 percent ace average. Everett had 5 digs for the match.
Also facing off against a non-varsity opponent, the Lady Panthers went 2-1 with 81 attacks and 21 kills against Riverton’s JV. King led With 8 kills followed by Bennett with 5 kills. Knotwell served 4 aces in the match.
The Worland Lady Warriors and Saratoga Lady Panthers played two sets with the Lady Panthers coming out on top, making 18 kills, out of 53 attacks. Bennett had 9 kills and 19 attacks and Evertt served 6 aces with a 50 percent ace average.
The final match against the Lander Lady Tigers was three sets long with 70 attacks. Though the lady panthers lost 1-2, King served 6 aces and Bennett had 11 digs for the match.
The Lady Panthers played a total of 15 sets over the weekend between the six matches. They started the season off with 332 attack attempts, 150 receptions and 295 total serves the Lady Panthers are clawing their way into the upcoming season.
