Julie Ann Evans, the eldest daughter of Valle and Elva Evans, was born on August 27, 1956 and grew up on the Evans family ranch on Cow Creek. There, with much room to grow, she threw up to be an independent and resourceful person with good work ethics.
"I can do it myself," she often said and, in later life, tackled electrical or plumbing jobs or hooked up a trailer and pickup and traveled-often by herself.
Julie was a good student and she worked and participated fully while attending high school. The family moved into Saratoga in 1971 and Julie graduated in 1974. She loved animals, particularly her dogs, reading, sewing and nature. She liked to cook and eat but hated to wash dishes! She went to L.A. to study merchandising at Brooks School of Fashion. Before long she was driving the freeways and disco dancing!
Her parents insisted that she move closer to home, and Julie missed the mountains, fresh air, and her friends and family. Julie moved to Denver and enrolled in Denver University, while working the night shift at Denny's, and received her accounting degree.
After her son, Mason, was born she moved to Saratoga. Joe Glode and Julie became a couple and they participated in the betterment of the community. Julie was also active in the Evans family business.
Julie had some strange symptoms develop in 2017, which were diagnosed as ALS. This horrible disease became probably the greatest challenge of her life. She died April 24, 2021 at her son's Fort Collins home. She was attended to 24 hours a day by Mason and his partner Devin, Joe, her siblings, friends and caregivers. She could not accept pity and constantly cautioned those around her, "Don't be crybabies! Be positive! Be happy!"
Julie is survived by her son Mason Evans (Devin); husband Joe Glode; grandson Olson Evans who was born on April 10; mother Elva Evans; her siblings Kathleen Martin and daughters Molly and Megan; John Evans (Mary Beth) and his children Alyssa (Aubrey), Michael, and Natalie; Kelly Christmas (Dave) and daughters Katie Newman (Paul) and Emily Owens (Dale) and their sons Cole and Cade.
A celebration of life was held in honor of her and her father, Valle Evans, on Monday, May 10, at the Platte Valley Community Center.
Memorials may be made to the Platte Valley Medical Center or the Platte Valley Healthcare Project P.O. Box 549 Saratoga, WY 82331.
