Saratoga track and field athletes take top places in Shoshoni

Saratoga's track and field athletes took to Shoshoni over the weekend as they competed in the 1A West Regional Meet. While there, Head Coach Rex Hohnholt's student athletes placed well with several earning All-Conference honors.

Girls at Regionals

Beginning with track events, Whitney Bennett placed 2nd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 2.37 seconds. Bennett also competed in the 300 meter hurdles, where she placed 1st with a time of 48.04 seconds. Both placings earned her All-Conference honors.

Also competing in the 300 meter hurdles was Katilyn Campbell, who placed 3rd with a time of 52.13 seconds. In the 100 meter hurdles, Savannah Wells placed 3rd with a time of 17.91 seconds and was narrowly followed by K. Campbell in 4th place with a time of 17.91 seconds. Jaden Campbell also competed in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 21.86 seconds.

Marilee Williams placed 3rd in the 3200 meter run, finishing with a time of 14 minutes, 1.54 seconds. Williams also competed in the 1600 meter run and finished with a time of 6 minutes, 11.11 seconds.

The Sprint Medley team of Wells, K. Campbell, Olivia Everett and Sam Fiedor took 1st place with a time of 5 minutes, 8.66 seconds and earned All-Conference honors. In the 1600 meter relay, the team of Everett, Tasia Daley, Wells and Fiedor finished in 2nd place with a time of 4 minutes, 52.05 seconds and earned All-Conference Honors.

Finally, in the 3200 meter relay, the team of K. Campbell, J. Campbell, Everett and Fiedor took 3rd place with a time of 12 minutes, 21.95 seconds.

In the field events, Bennett took 1st place in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 6 inches. Not only does this placing earn Bennett All-Conference honors, but it also breaks, for the third time, a school record that had been set by Benett twice this season.

Competing in the long jump, Wells placed 3rd with a distance of 15 feet, 6.75 inches. Bennett followed Wells, placing 7th with a distance of 14 feet, 9.5 inches.

While competing in the shot put, Daley threw for a distance of 25 feet, 1 inch and was followed by Fiedor with a distance of 24 feet, 8 inches. Daley also competed in discus, throwing for a distance of 63 feet, 9 inches.

Boys at Regionals

The track events saw the long distance runners do quite well as Grant Bartlett placed 1st in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 56.39 seconds. Grant also competed in the 1600 meter run, placing 2nd with a time of 4 minutes, 47.11 seconds. Both placings earned Grant All-Conference Honors.

Twin brother Grady Bartlett also competed in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run, placing 4th in the latter with a time of 4 minutes, 51.73 seconds. Grady placed 2nd in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11 minutes, .35 seconds and earning All-Conference Honors.

Also competing in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter run was Calvin Condict. Condict placed 8th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 4.62 seconds and finished the 3200 meter run with a time of 12 minutes, 1.76 seconds.

In the 100 meter dash, Noah Rimmer finished with a time of 12.23 seconds and was followed by Jordan Travis with a time of 13.51 seconds. Douglass Campbell competed in the 200 meter dash, finishing with a time of 31.25 seconds.

The field events saw Rimmer place 1st in shot put as he threw for a distance of 47 feet, 6.5 inches and earning All-Conference Honors. Travis and D. Campbell also competed in shot put with Travis throwing for 36 feet, 10 inches and D. Campbell threw for 24 feet, 10.5 inches.

Rimmer placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 5 inches. Travis also competed in discus, throwing for a distance of 88 feet.  Grant Bartlett competed in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 5.5 inches and Geoffrey Johnson competed in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 7 inches.

Saratoga will head to Casper this weekend to compete in the State Track and Field Championships at Kelly Walsh High School.
