Miners dig in at Mountain Man Invite

HEM track and field do well in Pinedale on Friday

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) track team ventured off to Pinedale to participate in the Mountain Man Invitation on April 30.

Eight teams competed. The HEM girls team came in 5th and the boys team came in 8th for a combined score that had them finish 7th.

“It was actually a beautiful day over in Pinedale on Friday,” Head Coach Jackie Jones said. “We had better times and we got to see some different competition. We were able to see some new teams and it keeps things fresh. Pinedale is always a good meet for us and we thank them for inviting us year after year.”

Jones said Amy Campbell prequalified for State in the discus throw.

The girls 4X800 relay team took 1st place with a time of 11:15.25. The team was Madison Campbell, Rainey Wilson, T’lyssa Solaas and Avery Scott. It was a personal best for the team.

“We had a few personal bests at Pinedale,” Jones said. “All the relays we participated in had personal bests, but to take 1st place was a highlight.”

Taylor Scott placed 1st in the 100 meter race with a time of 13.37 seconds.

“When you go to that caliber of a meet and you have event winners, it is a good thing,” Jones said. “We also had various placers in different events which is encouraging.”

The girl’s sprint medley relay placed 3rd with a time of 4:53.37. The team was the same relay team that won the 4X800. They also came in 3rd in the 4X400 with a time of 4:35.75.

Devon Grosstick placed 5th in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet, 09.75 inches.

A. Campbell came in 3rd in discus hitting 96-04 feet and she placed 6th in the shot with a distance 29 feet, 05.50 inches.

Joseph Borah took 5th in the shot put with a distance of 39-10.

T. Scott came in 3rd in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, 06.50 inches and 2nd in the 200 meter race with a time of 27.89.

T. Solaas placed 2nd in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.38.

Taylor Kennedy placed 9th in the boys 1600 meter race with a time of 5:49.14.

Aaron Barron placed 8th in the 400 meter race with a time of 1:01:59.

Jones said she feels getting the kids outside the past week for practice has helped the team improve.

“I think them being outside practicing has helped them overall ,” Jones said. “If we aren’t below freezing and no moisture, my plan is to be outside practicing. But if it gets bad, then we will be back in the pool.”

The next meet for HEM Miners will be in Thermopolis on May 7.
