Hanna approves resident waivers

11 waivers for new expansion tanks now an option for citizens

The Hanna Town Council met on April 12 at the Hanna Town Hall. The council members present were Sam Sikes and Bill Dys. Council members Tracy Fowler and Jayson Nordquist were absent. Mayor Lois Buchanan was present.

The council heard reports from the different departments and boards and once they were completed, the council approved them all.

The bills to be paid up to March 31, totaling $35,341.87, were ratified. The bills to be paid on April 14, totaling $19,194.03, were approved next. 

Brierley and Associates along with Howard Concrete came before the council to ask if they could work weekends on the Front Street and Main Street water projects. The council told the companies as long as there would not be any complaints generated by residents, there should be no problem for them to work on weekends.

The council un-table the question on allowing a waiver for residents on a water expansion tank that will be installed with homes getting new water meters. Residents that don’t want the expansion tank will sign a waiver now that the council has approved this option.

The second reading of Ordinance 391 was approved. The ordinance designates the amount of general tax to be assessed, levied and collected for the fiscal year 2021-2022 on all taxable real and personal property within the town of Hanna.

Under new business the council approved the 2020 fiscal year final audit for the town.

The council approved the donation agreement with Union Pacific for the footbridge. The footbridge (See “A bridge to the past” in the April 7 edition of the Saratoga Sun) had been sitting off to the side of a ditch along Front Street for several years until Union Pacific donated it to the town. The footbridge will be featured at the Hanna Basin Museum.

Resolution 2021-533 was approved. The resolution creates utility and other municipal services lien authority for the municipality and joint powers boards.

The council approved the yearly May spring cleaning pick up day. Every Wednesday in May, public works will pick up debris that is not household trash. Requests for pickup have to be submitted before noon Tuesday. Residents will be billed for items that normally have a fee at the Waste Station.

The council went into executive session at 7:50 p.m. and came out 8:30 p.m. No action was taken. The council adjourned at 8:32 p.m.

The next scheduled meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on May 12 at the Hanna Town Hall.
