Tigers take two, lose one over weekend

Encampment pounces on Rattlers and Panthers, loses to Pronghorns

The Encampment Tigers secured two conference wins and were dealt one conference loss this weekend as they hosted the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers (1-11, 0-6) on Thursday and were hosted by the Farson-Eden Pronghorns (11-3, 4-2) on Friday and the Cokeville Panthers (7-8, 2-3) on Saturday.

With the regular season drawing to a close and one more conference game on their schedule, the Tigers are currently ranked at No. 2 in the 1A Southwest.

Tigers vs. Rattlers

When the Rattlers hosted Encampment in January, Encampment easily escaped the fangs of LSRV with a significant lead. Though the Rattlers may have come into Tiger Nation looking for a win on February 11, the Tigers would again stay well out of LSRV's strike range.

In the 1st quarter of the game, Encampment quickly laid down points. While the Rattlers appeared to be able to keep up with the Tigers at first, eventually it became evident that Encampment's fast paced play didn't drop during their quarantine from the court. The 1st quarter ended with the Tigers leading 22-10.

The 2nd quarter saw Encampment continue to score while keeping the Rattlers practically scoreless as the Tigers went into halftime leading 37-14. Upon returning to the hardwood in the second half, the Rattlers put up 10 points in the 3rd quarter but did little to stop Encampment as they put up a total of 27 points. The final quarter saw Head Coach Jake Johnston pull his varsity players and give the junior varsity some much needed time on the court.

The junior varsity, just like the varsity players, did not let LSRV gain much ground as they continued to increase the score. The Rattlers put up another 14 points while Encampment put up 17 points of their own.

The final score was 71-38.

Tigers vs. Pronghorns

Following their home court victory over the Rattlers, Encampment took to the road and were hosted by the Pronghorns on Friday. When the two teams last met, the Tigers had secured a win against Farson-Eden. This time, however, the Pronghorns would manage to evade Encampment.

The final score was 47-59.

Tigers vs. Panthers

After their loss to Farson-Eden the day before, the Tigers ventured into the territory of the orange-and-black Panthers on Saturday looking for a win to bookend the weekend. Following a loss to Saratoga the day before, Cokeville didn't appear willing to let another game escape their paws. Encampment, however, secured a win against the Panthers.

The final score was 56-54.

Following their 2-1 weekend, the Encampment Tigers are 11-2 for the season and 5-2 for conference play. They will have been hosted by the Saratoga Panthers (11-2, 3-1) on Tuesday evening for their final conference game.

The Encampment Tigers will be hosted by the Rock River Longhorns at 5 p.m. on Friday and will host the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners at 12:30 p.m. on February 20.
