Lady Panthers split the weekend

The Saratoga Lady Panthers may have gone 1-1 over the weekend, but their one win was against their conference and Valley rivals, the Encampment Lady Tigers, on Friday while their loss was against the 3A Mountain View Lady Buffalos on Saturday.

Despite the loss to the Lady Buffalos, Head Coach Heather Bartlett ended the weekend pleased with how the Lady Panthers presented themselves on the court.

"The Encampment game was a great game for us. I was proud of the girls for how they played," said Bartlett. "They put a really good game together to get a great conference win."

Leading the Lady Panthers in that win was senior Savannah Wells, who secured 9 of her 16 points with 3-pointers against Encampment. Wells also had 5 steals. Sophomore Whitney Bennett had another double-double as she scored 12 points against the Lady Tigers and had 14 rebounds. 

Senior Tasia Daley and junior Sam Fiedor also added to the success with Daley scoring 5 points and having 5 rebounds while Fiedor scored 5 points and had 8 rebounds. Sophomore Shelby Knotwell also contributed to the win with 2 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

"It was a very balanced game for us with everybody contributing which is what we need to win," Bartlett said.

The final score was 41-35.

Lady Buffalos

Following their win on Friday, the Lady Panthers travelled to Mountain View on Saturday to face the higher conference Lady Buffalos. While Saratoga would eventually lose their second game of the weekend, there were silver linings to be found.

"The Mountain View game was actually a really good game for us. Even though we lost we came out of there feeling pretty good," said Bartlett. "Mountain View's girls are the second ranked team in (the) 3A (conference). Our offense looked really good and we really played a pretty good game despite losing."

As Saratoga worked to prevent the Lady Buffalos from running away with the score, Wells again took the lead scoring 14 points against Mountain View. Bennett, meanwhile, had yet another double-double as she scored 10 points and had 14 rebounds. Sophomore Olivia Everett also contributed and found herself in the scorebook with 10 points and 4 rebounds.

"This was kind of her breakout game," Bartlett said.

The final score was 44-68.

"We scored 44 points against them and felt pretty good about the game in general," said Bartlett. "Overall, it was a great weekend for us."

Following their split weekend, the Saratoga Lady Panthers are 4-4 for the season and 1-0 for conference play putting them just behind the No. 1 Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns (3-5, 1-0). 

While the Lady Panthers had been scheduled to host the Lady Pronghorns on Thursday and the Cokeville Lady Panthers (5-3, 0-0) on Saturday those games have been postponed and will be rescheduled.
