Eventful in Riverside

Riverside Town Council talks possibility of events in area taking place due to health orders

The Riverside Town Council meeting on May 14, 2020 went swiftly and orderly as ever.

After the minutes were approved and the financials were passed as presented, Helen Weiland of the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service informed the Council that they were the recipients of impact money from a wind energy program. The money will go toward the purchase of a new ambulance.

Lee Ann Stephenson, Sierra Madre Joint Powers Board, provided an update on the meter replacement project. The SMJPB is waiting for the 6th penny bonds to sell in order to fund the project. They are concerned that the 6th Penny Board does not have a Plan B if the bonds do not sell and are questioning how funds will be distributed in the event the bonds don’t sell. The question was left hanging in the air as no one present knew what would be done.

Stephenson went on to add that the SMJPB still has a part-time level 1 water operator position open. They have not had any applicants as of yet.

A few upcoming events were then discussed.

Mother Mountain Anglers annual disc golf tournament is coming up in June. They are not asking for donations as they understand that times are tough for many people right now but if any one is able, they will happily accept donations.

The Woodchoppers Jamboree will not be held this year but a rodeo may happen on a Saturday if the health office approves a variance.

It has not yet been decided if the Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering will take place or not. However, the Riverside Town Council voted to renew the contract if the event is allowed.

Jan Cook, Riverside Town Clerk, reminded the council that there are two positions open and election filing has already begun. If any one is interested in running, forms are available at the Town Hall and may be submitted until May 29, 2020.

Lastly, the second reading of the budget was accepted as presented.

The next meeting of the Riverside Town Council will take place June 11, 2020, at 6 p.m.
