Panthers dealt dual losses

Saratoga falls to Farson-Eden, Cokeville while on the road

While the Saratoga Panthers may have been riding high on achieving a conference win against their Valley rivals, the Encampment Tigers, they were dealt two blows over the weekend. Saratoga was hosted by the Farson-Eden Pronghorns (12-7, 3-4) on Friday and the Cokeville Panthers (8-10, 1-5) on Saturday and would come away with a loss from both teams.

“I think we played a little sloppy against Farson and it was clear that both Farson and Cokeville came into those games very prepared,” said senior Menphis Smith, “but we aren’t going to let those losses define the rest of our season.”

Panthers vs. Pronghorns

When the Pronghorns made their way into the Panther Den last month, they were unable to escape with a win against Saratoga. The Panthers ultimately defeated Farson-Eden with a 12-point lead against their conference rivals. With the Pronghorns hosting this time, it appeared that Farson-Eden aimed to prove they can survive in this conference.

Though they didn’t speed away with the score, the Pronghorns were able to evade Saratoga with a final score of 64-69.

Panthers vs. Panthers

Following their loss to Farson-Eden, the purple and gold Panthers faced off against Cokeville on Saturday. While Saratoga had also dealt a loss to the orange and black Panthers in January, it seemed that Cokeville was interested in revenge for the loss.

The Panther-Panther match-up saw Saratoga fall to Cokeville with a final score of 68-74.

With two conference losses after this weekend, the Saratoga Panthers are now at 14-3 for the season and 4-3 in conference play.

On Friday, they will host the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers (11-8, 2-4) for a final home and conference game.

“We know what this conference is capable of and it’s anyone’s game at this point,” Smith said. “It is going to come down to who wants to win more. It will be a hard game but we will come prepared, dedicated and determined to win the battle.”

The Saratoga Panthers will host the LSRV Rattlers beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday at Saratoga Middle High School.
