Lady Miners dig deep

HEM girls snag win in 4th quarter

The Encampment Lady Tigers tested the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners on Friday evening. The Lady Tigers were ahead a couple times by 10 points.

"Encampment is a team you always have to be ready for," Jackie Jones, HEM head coach for the girls basketball team said. "They have a great post presence and guards who know how to distribute the ball."

Jones said the game was definitely not decided until the end. The Lady Miners came on top by seven points.

"It was a tense game where we saw ourselves down by 10 at different times," Jones recounted. "The Lady Miners had a strong fourth quarter, finding ways to score that had eluded us in the first three stanzas."

Jones has said in past games that defense is where she tries to get the team to focus.

"A few key defensive stops helped turn the tide in our favor," Jones said. "I am so proud of the girls for finding a way to put up another win."

The final score was 38-31.

The Lady Miners are 7-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

The next scheduled game is at 4:30 p.m. on January 7 in Hanna against Glendo.
