Miners defeat Doggers

HEM football wins against Lingle by 45 points

The sunny, breezy day on Saturday was perfect for football. The Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow Miners took advantage of it, beating the Lingle-Ft. Laramie football in a convincing manner.

The first quarter, HEM was ahead 26-0 with seven minutes left to play. The Doggers kept trying, but the defense of the Miners was a wall not to be penetrated.

The second quarter, Conor McGraw ran for a long touchdown in first play. The score was 32-0.

Head Coach Zach Scott started integrating scout players with the starters.

There was a pass interference call on HEM that allowed the Doggers to be on their 10 yard line with 40 seconds left in the half. The Doggers pushed it in with seconds left in the half. The score at halftime was 32-8.

When the Doggers came out, they were ready to give the Miners a run. With their first possession, they scored and it was 32-15. The Dogger coach could be heard yelling Lingle was back in the game to his players.

His encouragement did not stop C. McGraw from scoring on a long run. Although the Miners missed the extra point, they were ahead 38-15.

HEM defense was tough against the Doggers, but Lingle got a touchdown with seven minutes left in the third quarter making it 38-24.

The Miners didn't buckle.

Conor caught a ball from his brother Shane and the score went to 54-24.

The fourth quarter saw a long distance catch to Brendon Reeves from Devon Grosstick that had the score to 50-24. Reeves caught several long passes during the game.

Grosstick caught a pass from Shane to have the Miners go to 57-24.

The third quarter ended and the Miners were to score two more times in the last half. Andrew Scott was one of the scorers.

The Doggers could not get any offense going in the fourth quarter and when the game ended, the Miners were ahead 69-24.

Scott said he was proud of how the team played.

"We had some great receptions and these kids continue to play well," Scott said. "I was really proud to see so many of the players contribute in defense and offense."

The next scheduled game is away on Oct. 4 against NSI Academy.
