Saratoga takes top three at Kimball Invite

Bartlett twins and Jarom Herring place 1st through 3rd in Nebraska, place 2nd overall

The Saratoga Cross Country team raced down to Kimball, Neb. on Friday to compete in the Kimball Invitational. While there, three of the five runners in men’s varsity placed in the top three among 66 runners and placed 2nd as a team.

In women’s varsity, Amber Stubbs placed 16th with a finish of 24:50 while Kaitlyn Campbell finished with a time of 27:45 and placed 38th.

The Bartlett twins, Grant and Grady, came in 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in the men’s varsity division. Grant finished with a time of 17:29 while Grady finished with a time of 17:43. Encampment’s Jarom Herring nabbed 3rd place as he finished with a time of 18:38.

Kelton Johnson finished with a time of 20:50 and placed 25th and Calvin Condict placed 32nd with a time of 21:28.

With Saratoga nabbing the three top spaces in the men’s varsity, they were tied with Cheyenne South for 1st place. However, the score of the fifth runner ended up being the tiebreaker between the two schools and put Saratoga in 2nd place.

“This was the first time we attended this meet and gave us a good tune up of finally running an entire race on grass,” said Rex Hohnholt, head coach for cross country. “I was extremely pleased with the kids this week as homecoming week usually takes a lot out of the kids. We had a great week of practice and that, combined with all the activities going on the entire week, I thought all the athletes performed very well.”

The next two weeks, the cross country team will be running much closer to home as they compete in the Rawlins Invitational on Sept. 20 at the Sinclair golf course and host the Shana Ward Memorial Invitational on Sept. 27 at the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort golf course.
