Cross Country runners do well in Casper

The long distance runners of the Valley hit the road this weekend to compete in the Kelly Walsh Beartrap Invitational in Casper. While there, the cross country runners from Saratoga and Encampment, the Pantigers, placed well individually as they competed on a course at 8,100 feet in elevation.

Amber Stubbs, who joined the team this year and competes in long distance in Track and Field, placed 13th in the Women’s Junior Varsity as she finished with a time of 24:58. Kaitlyn Campbell, who also competed, finished with a time of 28:15 and placed 47th.

In the Men’s Junior Varsity, Brayden Barkhurst finished with a time of 21:22 and placed 24th while Calvin Condict placed 42nd with a finishing time of 22:19.

In the Men’s Varsity, the Bartlett twins, Grant and Grady, finished within mere seconds of each other. Grant finished in 8th place with a time of 18:27 while Grady came in 9th with a time of 18:35. Jarom Herring finished with a time of 19:25 and came in 24th place at the Beartrap Invitational.

“It was a very productive meet for us and I am sure this will be a stepping stone for many good things to come this season,” said Rex Hohnholt, cross country head coach. “It is an absolute pleasure working with such a great group of kids and I am awfully proud of the effort they all bring to practice every day.”

The next meet for the cross country team will be across the border as they compete in the Liberty Bell Invite on Sept. 7 in Littleton, Colo.
