Miners take second in Sheridan

HEM track and field takes first in 10 events, both boys and girls teams return home as Regional runner ups, look forward to State meet in Casper

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School track and field team went to regionals in Sheridan and came in 2nd of all the schools that attended.

In six of the boys track events, HEM athletes came in 1st. The HEM girl athletes came in 1st in four events. The Miners, as a team, did very well in Sheridan.

“We had a tremendous regional meet with our usual suspects doing their jobs and other team members coming through with some amazing performances,” HEM Head Track and Field Coach Jackie Jones said. “To have both teams come home as regional runner ups was quite an accomplishment.”

In the Girls 100 meter dash, Taylar Scott came in 2nd with a time of 13.13 and Amy Campbell came in 3rd at 13.59.

Scott came in 2nd in the Girls 200 meter dash with a time of 28.31 and in the Girls 400 meter dash, Scott placed 1st with a time of 1:03.91.

The Girls 800 meter run had two girls place with Madison Campbell coming in 2nd at 2:36.63 and a 4th place finish with Rainey Wilson getting a time of 2:41.03.

The 1600 meter run had the Lady Miners place three athletes in the top four finishes. M. Campbell came in 1st with a time of 6:13.33. Sabrina Geller came in 3rd at 6:21.00 and Rainey Wilson finished 4th with a time 6:35.95.

The 3200 meter run had a Lady Miner finish on top with Geller coming in 1st with a time of 13:26.29.

“That was so amazing,” Jones said. “She cut close to a minute and a half off her best time.”

Coming in 6th in the same event, Cloe Olson had a time of 15:47.47.

In the 100 meter hurdles 2nd place went to T’Lysa Solaas with a time of 19.19.

In the 300 meter hurdles, M. Campbell came in 2nd with a time of 53.42 and Solaas placed 4th at 55.16.

The Girls 4x100 meter relay had the Lady Miner team place 5th with a time of 1:04.28. Jolynn Borah, Hayley Felton, Megan Hunter and Olson were the runners.

The Lady Miners came in 3rd in the Girls 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:45.14. M. Campbell, Wilson, Solaas and Geller were the team of four.

The Lady Miners came in 1st in the Girls 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:37.13. The team consisted of Wilson, Solaas, Geller and Olson

The Girls 1600 sprint medley team that raced came in 5th with a time of 5:51.12. Borah, Felton, Hunter and Olson were the members of this team.

In the Girls long jump A. Campbell came in 2nd at 15’ 02.50”. A. Campbell came in 4th in the Girls Shot Put hitting 30’ 00.50” and in the Girls Discus Throw, she came in 7th at 77’ 01”.

In the Girls triple jump Scott came in 2nd at 32’ 06.25”.

The boys team had a run of 1st place finishes in Sheridan.

Conor McGraw came in 1st with a time of 11.36 in the Boys 100 meter dash.

His twin brother Shane came in 1st in the Boys 200 meter dash at 23.16 with Conor placing 2nd with a time of 23.29. Shane came in 1st in the Boys 400 meter dash with a time of 51.45.

He came in 1st in the Boys 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.06. Teammate Taylor Widdison came in 6th with a time of 2:15.86.

Widdison placed 3rd in the Boys 1600 meter run at 5:35.03. In the Boys 3200 meter run Widdison came in 7th with a time of 12:36.01.

In the Boys 110 meter hurdles a Miner came in 1st. Conor ran at 15.22 to win. Teammate Jase Smith placed 3rd with a time of 19.93.

Conor also won the Boys 300 meter hurdles coming in with a time of 41.60 and Smith came in 4th at 47.47.

In the Boys 4x100 meter relay the HEM team of Cody Swingholm, Joseph Borah, Taylor Kennedy and Ura Schmidt came in 5th at 54.43.

HEM came in 3rd in the Boys 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:57.52. Devon Grosstick, Smith, Swingholm and Widdison made up this team. The Miners placed 3rd in the Boys 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:26.96. Swingholm, Kennedy, Schmidt and Smith were the team in this event.

In the Boys long jump Grosstick got 7th with 17’ 11.50”. In the Boys triple jump he placed 2nd at 39’ 07.00”.

In the Boys Shot Put had Borah come in 7th at 35’ 09.25”.

In the Boys Discus Throw, Shane came in 2nd with a throw of 132’ 09”.

Jones could not have been prouder of the team as most head to state, but she knows HEM will have strong competition.

“Our athletes are fully aware of the talent on the west side of the state,” Jones said. “And we are excited to compete in Casper this weekend.”
