Downtown fiber finished

First stage of fiber optic construction completed and online

Union Wireless has completed construction of their high-speed fiber optic network in the downtown Saratoga area and the service provider said, in a recent press release, that it is now online and ready for customers to sign-up. With the downtown area complete, the next phase of the project for the Wyoming based phone and internet provider is to install fiber optic in the residential area north of town.

“Saratoga is unique in that it is one of the few areas that we serve that is suitable for Fiber to the Home,” said Union Wireless Chief Customer Relations Officer Brian Woody in the press release. “Once the network is in place, it will greatly benefit Saratoga in terms of economic development, across a broad range of health care services and improved access to educational opportunities. Every resident in town stands to benefit.”

Data transmission through fiber optic lines is many times faster than ordinary internet. According to the press release, what makes the Saratoga project unique is that Fiber to the Home connections, in which fiber optic lines are fed directly into a residence or business, are being employed. FTTH connections, the press release continued, are the most reliable type of fiber connection available.

Union has, since 2012, invested $35 million to build a fiber optic network that would provide high-speed internet service to underserved rural communities throughout southwest Wyoming. The Saratoga build-out, according to the press release, will continue through the summer of 2019 and will make Saratoga the first town that Union serves to receive full FTTH internet service.

The public is encouraged to sign-up for service by either visiting Union’s Saratoga store or call 888-926-2273.
