Miners dig winning

Miners defeat Red Devils to remain unbeaten

The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School football team met Hulett Red Devils at Midwest at 1 p.m. on Sept 15. The teams picked this high school for it being equidistant to each school. The Miners came out on top for the third time in a row, but Zach Scott, head coach for the football team said Hulett was not a pushover although the score was 46-14.

“Hulett was an athletic hard hitting opponent and this was a game we needed at this stage in the season,” Scott said. “A true measuring stick to how we want to play.”

He was pleased with the Miner’s overall effort.

“Our boys stepped it up in all aspects of our game with blocking, tackling and running the ball.” Scott said. “Devon Grosstick had a great game at receiver and contributed well on defense.”

Scott saw some good looks from several other players that pleased him.

“Conor McGraw led by example with his sure tackling and decisive running,” Scott said. “Basil Phillips gave us a complete game leading on both of the ball.”

Scott said the team is getting better as a team each week and he is glad to see it.

“We need to keep growing as a team,” Scott said. “It is fun to see who will step up this week.”

Currently HEM is 3-0 and 2-0 in the conference.

The next scheduled football game is at 6 p.m. on Sept. 21 against Lingle Doggers in Lingle.
