Gallery owner gets art rotating at PVCC

In April 2015, Laura Morrow, better known in the Valley as Laura M, made the decision to rebrand. After purchasing Blackhawk Gallery from longtime owner Patty Lufkin, Morrow went from "Laura M's Clothing Boutique" to "Laura M Gallery and Backroom." The gallery displays fine art from approximately 40 artists, many of whom call the southeastern corner of Wyoming home.

As of December, visitors to the Platte Valley Community Center will be able to see new work from area artists. Displays are scheduled to rotate every two months, giving visitors ample opportunity to see the new work.

Morrow said the idea came about after speaking with photographer Kirby Hornbeck. Hornbeck, who is from Rawlins-but now resides in Laramie, specializes in wildlife and landscape photography.

"I had invited him to join the gallery and he said something about wanting to do a display at the community center," said Morrow.

Morrow told Hornbeck she could take care of a display for him at the PVCC. That conversation with Hornbeck got Morrow's proverbial gears to start turning.

"I got to thinking it might be nice to switch the art out over there about every two months," Morrow said.

The display at the PVCC will feature more than just artists from Laura M Gallery. Morrow has spoken with Trish Kaufman, owner of Studio T Gallery, about displaying artists from her gallery as well. Kaufman, whose gallery is open on a seasonal basis, is excited to join Morrow in her new endeavor upon her return to the Valley. Morrow added that artists who do not have work in either gallery are also welcome to be a part of the rotating display.

"It's not just about my gallery. It's about promoting Saratoga and promoting the arts," said Morrow.

Morrow encourages area artists who are interested in having their work displayed at the PVCC to contact her.

Hornbeck's work has been moved from the community center to Laura M Gallery and Backroom. The pastel artwork of Karen Henneck is now on display until the end of February or beginning of March. Near the end of April, the work of high school seniors throughout Carbon County School District No. 2 will be on display.

Artists interested in showing their work at the community center can contact Laura Morrow at her gallery at 100 N. First Street in Saratoga or can reach her by phone at 307-326-8187.
