Tacos and art

On St. Patrick's Day Friday, while many were out celebrating the evening and possibly making their Saturday morning quite a bit difficult, over at the Saratoga Alliance Church, dozens turned out for a taco dinner and a silent auction to benefit missionaries working in Mexico.

The event was held at 6 p.m. at the church. Food was free with an optional donation which many chose to make. Also up for auction were a variety of handicrafts and purchased gifts donated by residents and businesses.

The proceeds from the auction benefit Alliance Church missionaries in Rio Chico, Chihuahua State, Mexico, near Copper Canyon where they provide support to the Tarahumara, or Rarámuri people, a Native American tribe in the area.

During the taco dinner and auction, attendees watched a short video of the missionaries' work in Mexico.

According to Rev. Scott Stinson, pastor of the Saratoga Alliance Church, the event raised money which will benefit the mission in Rio Chico. At present, the mission is being rebuilt after portions of the structure of collapsed, leaving the occupants to live outdoors.
