Ashlynn Johnson, of Encampment, models her entry along with her first place Mohair award.

Ashlynn Johnson, of Encampment, participated in the National Make it With Wool (MIWW) competition in Denver Jan. 26-28, held in conjunction with the American Sheep Industry Convention.

Johnson modeled a teal/brown wool coat, teal jacket, brown slacks, and ivory shell top. Winners were announced at the end of the fashion show. Johnson placed in the top ten junior division contestants. She also received the first place "Mohair Award," a $500 check, donated by the Mohair Council of America.

Estella Munroe, also of Encampment, was chosen as the fourth place winner in the Adult Division of the National MIWW competition. Her outfit consisted of a black and brown cashmere coat and a black and brown wool dress. She submitted her outfit, photos, and modeling video to the national judging committee, and winners were announced in late December.

Contestants in the MIWW competition construct and model their own outfits, which must be made from at least 60 percent wool fabric. District competitions are held throughout Wyoming during October and November.

District winners participate in the State Competition which is held the last weekend of November. Other categories include Pre-teen Division, Senior Division, Made or Others, and Wearable Apparel. Wyoming also sponsors a Quilt, Afghan, and Knitted or Crocheted Apparel contest.
