Planning commission sticking to their guns

The Saratoga Planning Commission held to zoning ordinances pertaining to fencing and secondary occupation by a night watchman in the light industrial zone at their Feb. 9 regular meeting.

The commission agreed that the existing ordinances clearly state that a night watchman or caretaker can be housed on a light industrial property, but that housing is supposed to be within an enclosed structure.

In another matter brought by the same person, it was decided that van trailers could not be used to comply with the ordinance requiring fencing between industrial and residential properties. Van trailers used for storage are considered an accessory use and have to follow set back guidelines. A fence, with a minimum height requirement of six feet are required between industrial and residential lots.

The need for truck route compliance in the light industrial zone was identified by commissioner Tom Knickerbocker.

The commission also spent time working on the wording of the proposed changes to residential use in commercially zoned areas and the retail business district. Most of the discussion centered around requiring off street parking for the residential uses.
