Sun staff brings home editorial cup

For the first time since 1986, the Saratoga Sun has brought home the Editorial Leadership Award.

The judges told the Wyoming Press Association that the people in Wyoming didn’t have any issues with saying what was on their mind.

When announcing the Saratoga Sun for the Editorial Leadership award, the judges said, “This newspaper has concise editorials that state the problem, offer a solution and have a call to action. These editorials clearly protect, articulate and help the public’s interest. They exhibit how the newspaper is shining a bright light on their public officials, ways government is working/not working and how the public can conduct itself for the best results. All the things a good editorial should do. Good job.”

The News Letter Journal, located in Newcastle, Wyo., had won the Editorial Leadership Award for six years in a row before the Saratoga Sun won the honor for 2015.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the staff at the Sun who work their tails off year in and year out to produce the best possible paper for our area. The awards are a reflection of the good people of the Valley and the businesses that operate there,” Saratoga Sun owner Gary Stevenson said.

The staff at the Saratoga Sun also garnered second place in Photo Excellence and 13 Pacemaker awards.
