New Encampment postmaster hopes to bring continuity

"I love working with people. I love being able to help them and solve their problems mail-wise," Encampment Postmaster DeeDee Macey said of her job.

Encampment's new postmaster has been a postmaster since 1986, but she has worked with the U.S. Postal Service almost 37 years. Macey noted that she hopes to bring continuity to the Encampment post office.

Macey started out as a mail carrier and then moved inside to be a clerk. She has been postmaster in four locations, including Medicine Bow, Sinclair, Rawlins and now in Encampment.

"When you come to a community you're not familiar with, you recognize names all the time but you don't always put a name to a face," Macey said. "I'm getting to know that."

Macey was born in Rawlins and has lived there for most of her life, though she is hoping to move to Encampment on a semi-permanent basis. "I love Encampment. Encampment is beautiful. It's the little corner of Carbon County that people forget," Macey said. "Sometimes when you live in a community, you forget how beautiful it is."
